About:China Transit Visa

Transit VISA - LHR - HKG - Shanghai - HGK

I am flying LHR - HKG - LHR with work but would love to spend a couple of days in Shanghai.
I want to book HKG - Shanghai - HKG and so basically now go LHR-HKG-shanghai...then Shanghai-HKG-Tokyo-LHR.
Does it matter that I am connecting in HKG before going to shanghai then going back to HGK?

Yes, LHR-HKG-SH-HKG is not a transit route, so you need a visa to go to Shanghai. But if you fly directly from SH to Tokyo or other countries excluding HKG, then you are eligible for the 240h visa-free transit.
