About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Does a connection count as third country

I am flying round trip from the US direct to Beijing, and on the return to the US, I have a layover (for 4 hours) in Hong Kong. I will be in China for 205 hours. Do I meet the criterion for the 240 visa free transit policy? My specific concern is wether just a connection through Hong Kong allows me to count this as a third country for transit purposes.

The route is like US - Beijing - HK layover - US? Yes, you are eligible. A connection at HKIA counts.
