Uk citizen travelling with emergency passport

I’m travelling from Chaing mai Thailand back to England via Yunming and Shanghai airport. Both of the layovers are less than 12 hours. I lost my passport so I’m travelling with an emergency passport, will I need to apply for a transit visa before I get my flight? And if so will I have to pay for it?

In theory you don't need to apply or a transit visa. As I haven't similar cases, you had better consult the entry port, Kunming Airport to see your eligibility.
