About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

A flight to Japan over Beijing

hi. I am an Azerbaijan passport holder. I am traveling to Beijing 18th of March and from there to Tokyo, Japan on the 19th of March afternoon. am I eligible for 24 hours visa free?

Well, you have not written where do you travel to Beijing from. If you are traveling to Beijing from a country different than Japan and mainland China, for example from Azerbaijan, you are eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. Now, the question is whether you will have to collect and re-check your checked-in luggage in Beijing or not. You were not clear on this detail either. This is not a problem, just to re-confirm you. I will take into consideration that you have to collect your luggage and perform new check-in. So, when you land in Beijing, the very first thing that you will do is to approach 24/240 hour visa free transit counter where you will present your flight tickets. Please, just do not be afraid of anything. Also, this application is free of any charge. When the Chinese immigration authorities sees your itinerary, they will issue a temporary entry permit and when you get one, you will head to the immigration to formally enter China. You will then collect your luggage and perform new check-in. When you are done with that, you will head to the exit immigration and to your onward flight. In case if your checked luggage if tagged all the way to the final destination, you will just walk from one to the other gate and you will not be a subject of immigration or customs inspections. hi, thanks for your reply.

so I am traveling to Beijing, China from Baku, Azerbaijan.
then in 20 hours I have a flight from Beijing to Tokyo.
I have to take my luggage and check in again.

Will it be possible to leave the airport if a have a hotel booking?

one more question- are all border controls all over the world informed about this 24 hours transit visa free? cause i am afraid they might not be informed about it in Baku and borders not let us travel without Chinese visa.

and lastly am I also eligible for the same kind of transit visa free 24 hours on the way back from Tokyo (transit in Beijing not exceeding 24 hours)?

Yes, you also enjoy 24h visa free transit on the way back from Tokyo. You can leave the airport to the hotel during the transit after getting a 24h temporary entry permit at the immigration counter. And normally borders all know about China's 24h visa free transit.
