About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Travel between provinces, different entry and exit airports

I am a UK national with a British passport. I will land in Xi'an from HK, visit tourist sites (2 days), get the train to Beijing, visit tourist sites (4 days), depart Beijing by air (to the UK.) Can I enter and exit different airports in China as long as they are on the list. I don't know whether the statements I have read about "cross-privince travel" being allowed mean WITHIN the province or across DIFFERENT provinces. In short: Can I fly IN to Xi'an and OUT of Beijing on the 240 TWOV scheme? So I do not need an L visa?

Your itinerary is definitely and undeniably eligible for 240 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. It is allowed to cross the provincial borders and you can use two different airports / cities for your entry and your departure. This is definitely acceptable under 240 hour visa free transit. You should just take care that your flight from Beijing to UK does not have any landing in Hong Kong. Have a nice visit to China.

It is Hong Kong -> Xian and then Beijing -> UK (via Amsterdam) so that should b fine, I think :) Thank you for your advice. My only other issue is that if I cannot check in for my homeward flight until shortly before it leaves, I will have a booking but perhaps not a seat number for the flight home... all the documents seem to suggest that I must have a flight booking and a seat number...

Thank you very much for answering these comments!

Chris, your itinerary is definitely eligible and you can proceed with your travel plans with absolute peace of mind. As far as the seat number is concerned, this is not a requirement any more and it is a little bit unfortunate wording that really means, a confirmed flight. In other words, just do not bother yourself with the seat number when you have a confirmed flight. Have a nice visit to China.
