About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

A - China - B / if AB are both allowed areas

thank you Borut for answering all these questions.

i'm coming from the USA. going to Taipei - Beijing (gate 1 tour) Shanghai - Hong Kong, then back to USA. is the 240 hour visa free transit permitted if i'm entering and leaving China through those cities?

Yes, you are definitely eligible for 240 hour visa free transit because both Taiwan and Hong Kong are considered as eligible territories. In reality, so many visitors to mainland China use eligible territories because they are literally next to mainland China and consequently so convenient to create eligible itineraries. Have a nice visit to Shanghai and maybe some other parts of China.
