Does transit count as an entry?

Hi, I'm going on a Single Entry visa. However, before my trip I'll spend a few days in Hong Kong. I have a connecting flight in Hangzhou in order to get to Hong Kong. Would that entry just for the flight count as the single entry? I'm Irish, by the way.

The transit won't be counted as an single entry if you just stay at the airport and wait for the next flight. By the way, Irish people enjoy 15-day visa free entry to Mainland China, which means you can travel around within Chinese mainland without a visa for up to 15 days.
