Jess, the subject with the Turkish stamp has become almost legendary in its persistence and creativity. Every single month there is somebody spreading false information in this regard and in the same time literally thousands of passengers from Turkey arrive in China on a daily basis by direct flights from Turkey to several Chinese cities. So, if thousands of passengers on direct flights from Turkey do not have any problem, it is more than logical that you will not have any problem whatsoever.
Please, just travel with absolute peace of mind, do not listen to the false news and enjoy in your entire journey and in your short visit to Beijing specifically.
Also, if you are the citizens of the Netherlands, you have to be aware that you do not have to bother yourselves about the subject like visas or visa free transit schemes of any kind because you simply do not need a visa to enter and to explore China for a period of up to 15 days. To make it short, your visit to China is similar as if you were going to Turkey or UK. The only thing you will do is to fill out the arrival card that will be dispensed on board the flight to Beijing and with that card and your passport you will go straight to the immigration and after that to enjoy your free time on your own.
