Transit visa or a permit stamp at airport

I’ll be traveling from Zurich then transit in Shanghai Pudong for 12 hours then fly to Bangkok. If I’m to leave the airport, should I get the transit visa? I’ve seen mixed reviews as some said the staffs don’t stamp the permit.

You are eligible for the 24-hour visa-free transit. However, if you want to get out of the airport, you need to apply for a temporary entry permit at the counter.
