About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can you leave the airport with 24 transit visa at Shenzhen Bao’an Airport

Hi. I am British with UK passport and my partner is Singaporean with Singapore passport. We are flying from Singapore to Uk with a 15 hour layover in Shenzhen Bao’an Airport. Will we be able to leave the airport in Shenzhen on either the 24 hour transit visa, the 72 hour visa or the 144 hour visa? We would like to get a hotel in Shenzhen overnight for the connection. We’ll be flying with Shenzhen Airlines. Thanks

Well, nobody but a Chinese immigration authorities can precisely answer to your question. However, since your layover belongs to the category of long ones, I would say that your chances to be allowed to exit the airport are really very good.

In order to be allowed to exit the airport you will do the following. Immediately upon your landing in Shenzhen you will approach 24/144 hour visa free transit counter. There you will apply for a temporary entry permit by presenting your flight tickets and your hotel booking confirmation. This application is free of any charge. After a short check and decision making, you will be, hopefully, granted a permit and you will then proceed to the immigration to exit the airport and to enjoy the city on your own.

By the way in Shenzhen there are just 24 and 144 hour visa free transit. 24 hour visa free transit is applied to those with a layover shorter than 24 hours and 144 hour visa free transit for those on a layover longer than 24 hours. Also, I encourage you to use correct terminology because these are not visas, but visa free transit schemes and there is no visa of any kind whatsoever.
