About:Visa on Arrival

American Citizen from Hong Kong to Shenzhen

Hello,
I will be visiting Hong Kong then would like to take the bullet train to Shenzhen for 4 days then return back to Hong Kong to depart from there, would it be possible to get a VOA on my American Passport? Please note, I am not a resident in Hong Kong.

It is possible for US citizen to obtain 5 days Shenzhen visa on arrival, but you cannot do that by taking a high speed train. You can do it only at three designated border crossings:

- Huanggang
- Lo Wu (Luohu), easily reachable from Hong Kong by train, but relatively congested, so if you take this one arrive at least at 08:30 in order to avoid main queues
- Shekou, is the best option. You can reach it by taking the first morning ferry from Hong Kong to Shekou. Please, have in mind the visa office opening hours: 9:00 - 13:00 & 14:30 - 16:30.

The price is 130 CNY and you will pay for it by your card.

After your stay in Shenzhen you can return to Hong Kong by taking any border crossing and any mean of transport, high speed train included.
