Spousal Visa (S Visa) & residency permit.

I recently married a Chinese citizen. After marriage, I returned to the US for work. I plan to retire in 10 months and move to China. I am going to visit my wife in June using my L Visa that I currently have. While there, should I apply for the S Visa so that it is ready when I return to live there in 10 months? Does the S1 and S2 allow for multiple entries?

Well, I think you need a Q1 or Q2 visa for your purpose of family reunion with your wife. Q1 is for long-term family reunion and has a single entry and you can apply for a residence permit at the exit and entry administration upon entering China and with the permit you can reenter China for unlimited times.
Q2 is for short-term family reunion and has multiple entries and no need to apply for a residence permit.
