About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Guangdong

Hong Kong - Guangzhou - Macau in 144 hours

My husband is a UK passport holder (I have a Hong Kong passport and 回鄉证). We will go to Hong Kong in October. He wants to make use of the 144 hours visa-free provision to visit Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Our plan is to fly from Hong Kong to Guangzhou, travel to Shenzhen and take a ferry to Macau. Will it work, please?

Yes, your plan is definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit. You should just have in mind that you will have to buy your ferry ticket in advance and print it out. Also, it is necessary to have that ticket at hand in Hong Kong at the time of check-in and also upon landing in Guangzhou when your husband will apply for a temporary entry permit to be allowed to exit the airport. In the end, you will really have to take a ferry to Macau that you have bought your ticket for. During your stay, your husband is allowed to travel within the entire Guangdong province in the way as he wants. Since you have 回鄉证 (Home Return Permit), nothing of the mentioned is relevant to you because you can travel to and from mainland China as you wish. By the way, you know that, but all these rules are valid for your husband. Have a nice journey.
