Obtaining a 10 year Tourist Visa

My existing Canadian passport with a 10 year business visa for China is expiring shortly. I travel often to HK on business and typically take the MTR (subway) to the border and go into Shenzhen for a day trip or sometimes overnight on the weekends. I would like to apply for a 10 year tourist Visa so that I can continue to do these day and overnight trips. I do not have travel plans yet, and even when I make my travel plans they will not include a flight into mainland China as I take a train or subway. Is it possible to apply and get approved for a 10 year visa without having pre arranged travel plans that include a flight into china?
