144 hours transit

Question

Hello! I hold a Canadian passport. Can I apply for 144 hours transit free visa if I travel from Hong Kong to Macao via Guangzhou by high speed train? Do I need to book a hotel in advance. Please advice me. Thanks a lot!

I'm no professional, but from what I understand, that route doesn't work. This 144 hr visa-free scheme only applies if you enter Guangdong from one of the 3 designated ports (all 3 are airports - Guangzhou Baiyun, Shenzhen Bao'an, and Jieyang Chaoshan). That being said, I believe that when you leave, you can leave from anywhere in Guangdong to Macao; that should make you eligible for the visa-free transit.
