24-hour transit visa free for Vietnamese passport?

Hello, is 24-hour transit visa free applied for Vietnamese passport who fly into Shanghai, leave the airport and embark a cruise? same for return, disembark a cruise in Shanghai, go to airport to fly home? What is the process? do we need to apply for a visa-free or just need to show relevant documents like cruise ticket, flight ticket, overnight hotel booking (in case flight arrive at night) etc...?
