Visiting Shenzen from Hong Kong with family

Hello, we are a family of 4 with 7 and 8 year old children. We are planning to fly to Hong Kong and then would like to travel on to Shenzen for a few days to visit some friends. We would then return to Hong Kong after a few days before travelling on to Japan. Is it correct that we can buy our short stay (5 day) visas to visit Shenzen from Hong Kong while we are there? Do we need a different visa to return back to Hong Kong or can we travel out and back on this 5 day visa (visiting Shenzen once)? Where can we purchase these? Thank you!

Yes, 5-day visa on arrival are enough for you and you only need it once. No other document is needed to return to HK. Generally, you can apply for it at Luohu, Shekou, and Huanggang Ports. The visa office keeps open from 9:00-16:30 and you'd better arrive there early to avoid long queues. The cost is CNY 736 per person.
