About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Tokyo - Harbin - Seoul

Hi,
I am Australian citizen who would love to visit Harbin, and wondering if it is possible to buy two one way tickets: Tokyo to Harbin (one ticket), and 72 hours later, fly Harbin to Seoul (one ticket) and still qualify for 72H Transit Visa? Does it also matter if I fly into Harbin with, lets say China Southern Airline, and leave Harbin to Seoul with, lets say Asiana? Or does it all have to be with China Southern Airline? My only reason to go to Harbin is to see the Ice Festival.

Thank you in advance.

Yes, you are allowed to do that because separate tickets and unrelated airlines are fine and eligible if your itinerary is eligible. If you plan to do:

Tokyo - Harbin - Seoul

And you do not have any additional landing of any kind within mainland China with the exception of Harbin, you are definitely and undeniably eligible for 72 hours visa free transit in Harbin.

You are advised to print out your flight tickets and your accommodation booking confirmation and to have those printouts with you at hand. Upon your landing in Harbin you will approach transit counter and present them those printouts. After a short check, you will be granted a temporary entry permit and you will cross the immigration. After that, you will enjoy Harbin on your own.
