About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Guangdong

Can I get a 144 hours transit visa on arrival in Shenzhen Airport?

Hello, I am from Romania and I'm planning to travel to Shenzhen from Kuala Lumpur on the 15th March 2024 and stay until 19th March 2024 (Shenzhen - Seoul). I already have the exit plane ticket to South Korea.

Am I eligible for the 144 hours transit visa? If yes, do I need to apply for the visa before or is it visa on arrival?
Am I going to be able to travel to Hong Kong with this visa? If yes, what is the best transportation option?

Thank you in advance!

Part one:

Actually, it is 144 visa free transit and not 144 hour visa. There is no visa at all.

It is important to know that your itinerary is eligible for 144 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. However, since you have mentioned Hong Kong and the visit to this city, you will have to do the following:

- You will have to buy a ferry ticket through CKS - Chu Kong Passenger Company website that will take you from Shekou port in Shenzhen to Hong Kong even before your departure from Kuala Lumpur. However, you have to be aware that you cannot take a ferry from Shekou/Shenzhen before you have stayed in Shenzhen area for at least 24 hours to become eligible for 144 hour visa free transit. In other words, your ferry departure from Shenzhen is allowed to be after you have stayed 24+ hours in Shenzhen.
- You will print out your ferry ticket and you will have it at hand, ready to present along your flight tickets that should also be in a printout form.
- You will really have to take exactly that ferry you have bought your ticket for.
- During your check-in in Kuala Lumpur you will declare that you will travel to Hong Kong via Shenzhen using 144 hour visa free transit and you will present them flight and a ferry ticket.
- You will also book your accommodation in Shenzhen and have a printed confirmation for at least the first overnight.
- Upon landing in Shenzhen, the first thing you will do is to approach the transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit to be allowed to exit the airport. Here you will again present your flight tickets and your ferry ticket. After a short check, your permit will be granted and you will exit the airport.

Part two:

-When the time arrives, you will take a ferry from Shekou port to Hong Kong
- You will return from Hong Kong to Shenzhen by either a boat to Shekou port, but this time you will have to obtain a real, so called 5 days Shenzhen visa on arrival.
- You can obtain it by taking a ferry from Hong Kong to Shekou, but you have to be aware of the opening hours of Shekou visa office: 9:00 - 13:00 & 14:30 - 16:30, or at Lo Wu (Luohu) crossing that you can reach by a suburban train. Lo Wu (Luohu) visa office opening hours: 9:00 - 16:30. You are advised to be at Lo Wu even before 09:00 because of possible congestions.
- The "small" drawback here is the fact that Romanian citizens pay for this visa a bit high amount of 523 CNY by card.
- After you have entered Shenzhen, you are allowed to take your flight from Shenzhen to Seoul.

Basically, this is it.

ZoLee, this is a very good news :)

As you can see the rules and tariffs are changing on a very fast track, so I am glad that Romanian citizens are required to pay noticeably less that it is formally stated here on the topic.
