About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Chengdu

144 hour visa free transit

I am an American with an American passport living and working in Thailand on a work visa. I was planning to fly from Chiang Mai/Bangkok to Chengdu, then Chengdu to Hong Kong. Will I be able to enjoy the 144 hour visa free transit?

Yes, you will. You should just take care that on the segments:

Chiang Mai/Bangkok - Chengdu

and

Chengdu - Hong Kong

You do not have any additional landings because they could easily disqualify you, especially if they are done within the mainland China. If your itinerary is exactly as you have written, you will be definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa.
