About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can I use Free Visa visit twice in same Year

Hello,
I am an Australian citizen who lived In China for 6 Years but sadly due to work had to move away. I am looking at seeing some friends from China again soon on my way to Japan. I am wondering can I fly into Shanghai (stay 72 hours) fly to Japan for about 3 weeks and then fly back in to Shanghai again for another 24 hour stay?
Thank You

Actually, it is 144 hour visa free transit in wider Shanghai area and not 72 that was replaced by 72 hour years ago. So, you are allowed to stay in Shanghai for up to 6 days, but your itinerary has to be eligible for that or in other words, it has to follow the rule:

Country A (Australia) - Shanghai (country B) - Country C (Japan)

So, the immediate points before and after Shanghai have to be in two different countries or eligible territories (eligible territories: Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau). If you create such an itinerary, you will be eligible to enjoy 144 hour visa free transit as many times as you wish within a year or even more often. In reality, there is no limit. So, you can proceed with your plan, but take care that your itinerary comply with this rule.
