Yes, you will apply for this visa exactly at the border. There are three border crossings equipped with visa offices:
- Huanggang, by road only, opening hours: 9:00 - 16:30
- Lo Wu (Luohu), you can reach it by local train, convenient, opening hours: 9:00 - 16:30
- Shekou, you can reach it by ferry from Hong Kong, the best because it is least congested, opening hours: 9:00 - 13:00 & 14:30 - 16:30.
If you plan to use the first two border crossings, arrive areal, even before their opening hours because demand is high and Chinese officials are forced to introduce daily quotas. This is the reason why do I always suggest Shekou crossing because people arrive there by ferries. The only real drawback is the fact that the price of this VOA for US citizens is steep 1,295 because of the reciprocity.
