About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

72 hour visa free transit query via a cruise ship arrival

Does the 72 hour visa-free transit apply if I arrive in Beijing Tianjian cruise port via a US cruise ship (Australian citizen/passport) then I depart the cruise ship within 48 hours to transfer to Beijing International airport to board a Cathay Pacific flight to Sydney via Hong Kong. Thank you.

Yes, arriving by cruise in Tianjin and departing from Beijing by plane is eligible way to use 144 hour visa free transit that is valid for wider Beijing area. However, there are several conditions:

- Your cruise is not allowed to arrive directly from Hong Kong to Tianjin
- Your cruise is not allowed to have an immediate port call in another mainland Chinese port before arrival in Tianjin
- Your flight is not allowed to have any additional landing within mainland China between Beijing and Hong Kong

In other words, if you have an itinerary of this kind:

Korea - Tianjin/Beijing - Hong Kong

or

Taiwan - Tianjin/Beijing - Hong Kong

This is eligible...

However, if your itinerary is like this:

Hong Kong - Tianjin/Beijing - Hong Kong

Shanghai - Tianjin/Beijing - Hong Kong

Those would not be eligible. Hope your itinerary is eligible :)
