About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

24hrs transit Shenzhen-Macau and back on Irish passport

Would it be possible to apply for a 24hrs transit visa arriving by air in Shenzhen and taking the train to Macau? I think the train ends on the Chinese side of the Macau border.
I would like to do the same in reverse a few days later.
What is the alternative if this doesn't work?

No, unfortunately, this is not possible. The only way how you can reach Macau visa free is the following:

- You will take your flight to Shenzhen
- You have to stay in Guangdong province (where Shenzhen is located) for at least 24 hours and 1 minute to be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit
- You have to take a ferry from Shekou port in Shenzhen to Macau
- You will have to buy your ferry ticket through TurboJet website even before you depart for Shenzhen, print it out and have that printout at hand
- You will have to take exactly that ferry you have bought your ticket for

If you do like this, you will be able to travel absolutely visa free, but you will have to follow the guidelines provided above.

You cannot do a reverse journey by relying on visa free transit, but you can take a ferry from Macau to Shekou port in Shenzhen where you will apply for a 5 days Shenzhen visa on arrival. The price for Irish citizens is 275 CNY and you should be aware of the opening hours of Shekou visa office: 9:00 - 13:00 & 14:30 - 16:30.

In my opinion, these are your best solutions for your travel needs.
