Formally, you can apply for the 5-day VOA. However, be prepared that you may be rejected by Chinese customs and not everybody can get it. If you proceed with your travel plan, I advise you to take a ferry from Hong Kong to Shekou port in Shenzhen and to apply for a Shenzhen VOA there. Please, just have in mind the opening hours of Shekou visa office: 9:00 - 13:00 & 14:30 - 16:30.0
