About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Travelling from London to Beijing (PKX) then onto Hanoi, via Macau.

My wife and I are flying from London to Beijing with British Airways. We had originally planned to stay in Beijing for a few days before flying to Hanoi, but our plans changed and we are unable to, so we are then flying 4hours later to Hanoi via Macau with Air Macau. Obviously we will not be leaving the airport, but we will have to reclaim our luggage and then head for the Air Macau check in desk. We will have checked into this flight online and will have with us boarding passes and seat reservations. Will be need to leave the transit area and will we need a visa of we are required to?

Your itinerary is definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. However, since you are flying on two separate tickets, which is fine and acceptable, you will formally enter China, so this is the procedure:

- Immediately upon your landing you will approach transit counter (desk) first where you will apply for a temporary entry permit. This is for free and here you will present your onward ticket for Macau. Your permit will be issued to you promptly. Before this, you will be handed arrival/departure card on board of the plane that you will fill out mentioning just transit purpose of your stay in China.
- You will cross immigration and formally enter China in order to perform new check-in for your flight to Macau/Hanoi.
- After your check-in, you will proceed to immigration and to your gate for your flight to Macau.
- You will do everything a bit in a hurry because you do not want your flight to Macau to leave without you :)

Just be relaxed because you do not need any kind of visa and you will catch your flight to Macau, just follow the steps I have written and, hopefully, explained clearly :)
