About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

144 Visa Layover Clarification

Hello. My itinerary is
Sydney → Singapore (8 days)
Singapore → Guangzhou (6 days)
Guangzhou → Sydney (layover in Singapore for 2 hours and 50 min)

I understand that Singapore → Guangzhou → Sydney is considered 144 transit, even though for Guangzhou → Sydney leg there is a layover in Singapore for 2 hours and 50 mins?

As flights on single ticket, our luggage will be checked through to Sydney.

The first and the most important rule as far as any visa free transit rule scheme is concerned is that the immediate points before and after your Chinese destination have to be in two different countries or eligible territories (eligible territories are Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau).

Based on this, above mentioned rule, you can see by yourself that your itinerary is considered to be just a return journey and not a transit and for this reason your itinerary is not eligible for any kind of visa free transit. In other words, you will have to obtain a Chinese visa in advance or to adjust your itinerary because you cannot have:

Singapore - Guangzhou - Singapore

I'm sorry.
