About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Layover in Nanjing

My family will be laying over in Nanjing after coming from South Korea with an onward ticket with the same airline (China Eastern) back to our residence which is Singapore and was wondering if we could get a temporary 24-hour visa entry permit to get our luggage as it is not checked through *according to the airlines, we need to get our luggage and get it checked in again. We are Philippines Passport holders.

Thanks for answering
Justin

Justin,

Assuming that your entire transit time in Nanjing is shorter than 24 hours and that you have mentioned all the stops within your itinerary, you will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit and you do not need a visa of any kind. Also, it is important to use correct terminology because this is not 24 hour visa, but 24 hour visa free transit.

Since you will have to make a new check-in in Shanghai, the first thing that you will do upon arrival in Shanghai is to approach 24/144 hour visa free transit where you will apply for a temporary entry permit to be allowed to formally enter China. This application is for free. Here you will present your flight tickets and after a short check, you will be allowed to proceed through immigration, to collect your luggage and to perform a new check-in.

Hi Justin!

I will be doing the exact same itinerary as you and your family.

I am a PH Passport Holder coming from Seoul and will have a 6-hour layover in Nanjing via China Eastern and will head back to Singapore.

How was your experience? Is it required to apply visa before-hand or we can do the 24-hr visa-free transit upon arriving at Nanjing airport?

Thanks!

HE, I seriously doubt that Justin will reply to you, but if your entire transit time within mainland China is shorter than 24 hours and you use the same or very similar route as Justin did, I assure you that you will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa.
