About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

HND - PVG - SIN - PVG - ICN

Hi. I am considering a trip on China Eastern. Would I qualify for the 144 hour transit visa on both trips in Shanghai (to Singapore and back to Korea from Singapore)? Or would I not qualify since I would be arriving and leaving Singapore.

Trip 1: Tokyo Haneda - Shanghai Pudong - Singapore
Trip 2: Singapore - Shanghai Pudong - Seoul Incheon

If I didn't want to leave the airport on the return trip (Singapore to Korea) could I just transit in Shanghai (not leave the airport)? Thanks!

Actually, it is 144 hour visa free transit and not 144 hour transit visa... There is no visa of any kind at all.

Both of your itineraries are perfectly eligible for 144 hour visa free transit if you do not have any additional landing within mainland China. It does not matter the fact that you will arrive and then depart to/from Singapore... As you can see these are two transit journeys and when you arrive in Singapore during your 1st trip, it is considered that the transit travel is accomplished and you can start a new, separate one as you have correctly planned and presented.

During your 2nd trip, you do not have to leave Shanghai airport if you do not want. I assume that you will have just a short layover... So, staying at the airport, airside, is perfectly fine.
