About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

24h Visa Transit

Hi, Thanks for your brief explanation of the above article. It's constructively helping me who is still researching my upcoming trip from ICN to my home in Indonesia.

However, I'm an Indonesian citizen, planning to take China Eastern Airlines for my return (ICN - CGK) and found the 23hrs layover in Shanghai option, I want to buy it since I have never been to China. As I read your response to one of the comments, It is safe for me to take the 24hrs Visa at the Shanghai Aiport? (I have already thought about which hotel I would like to take if I have that mentioned layover)

If I had to submit the usual China entry visa, it would take some time to prepare and I would not choose the CEA flight as well. Thank you in advance if you happened to respond to this question, because your help will surely make a huge difference for my upcoming trip!

Boni, I understand you. Also, if Shanghai is your only stop within mainland China and your layover is 23 hours long, you are definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. This is something that is your right as a passenger and nobody will deny boarding or similar. Also, you should be aware that this is not 24 hour visa, but 24 hour visa free transit, so there is no any kind of visa at all.

Now, I understand that you would like to visit Shanghai and to have a good night rest in one of Shanghai accommodations. Here you have to be aware that you will have to approach 24/144 hour visa free counter immediately after your landing into Shanghai. You will present your onward ticket for Indonesia and also a printout of your accommodation booking confirmation and apply for a temporary enter permit. This permit is free of any charge and this is not a visa, but just a permit to be allowed to exit the airport and to stay in the city until the time of your onward flight. Here it is important to mention that the permit is not passenger right, but a discretionary decision by airport authorities to grant it or not. In other words, you can expect both outcomes, a positive or a negative one. However, since your layover is a very long one, you will present your accommodation reservation, your chances to be granted a permit are really very, very good... If I were you I would be taking this flight option, especially if it is cheaper compared to those offered by competition. Now, decision has to be all yours :)
