About:Visa on Arrival

Do I need to enter Hongkong immigration before taking a ferry to Shekou to get VOA?

I hold the Netherlands Passport. I plan to enter Shenzhen by taking a ferry from HK airport to the Shekou port, applying VOA. I wonder whether I can take the ferry directly without passing the Hongkong immigration counter and claiming baggages. Or is it logically necessary that I enter into Hongkong first?

No, you don't need to enter HK or you can't take a ferry. You don't need to claiming the luggage and just process the baggage transfer procedures at the ferry ticketing counter. They will be transferred to Shenzhen by ferry directly.

Just to add that you have to be aware of Shekou visa office opening hours: 9:00 - 13:00 & 14:30 - 16:30. Please, have in mind that after the visa office closes, you cannot obtain a Shenzhen 5 days visa on arrival!
