Visa transit 24h for malaysian passport holder

Hi, I'm going to Jeju, Korea, but will transit to Shanghai from Malaysia. Can I go out during my 8h layover and do I need a visa? Or can I just request a visa transit once I reach the Shanghai airport? thanks

You are eligible for the 24-hour visa-free transit and no visa is needed to transit in Shanghai. However, if you want to get out of the airport, it may be a little hard to get one temporary entry permit as your transit time is a little short.
