US citizen arriving in Shanghai from Hong Kong

I am a US citizen. I will arrive in Hong Kong on a cruise ship. I will stay overnight in Hong Kong. The next day I will fly to Shanghai. I will spend two night (less than 72 hours) in Shanghai before boarding a flight for the US mainland. Will I qualify for the 72 hour visa-free entry?
