About:China Visa

Shanghai Stopover to change airlines / transit

I am a Malaysian passport holder looking to transit in Shanghai for 6 hours. But will need to exit immigration and re-check in bags as travelling onwards to Bangkok via a different airline. Do I need to apply for a visa or can I qualify for 24 hours transit without visa?
