About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

21:30 and 23:00 stopover at Beijing Daxing Airport

Hello. My flight from Tehran, Iran to Tokyo is with China Southern Airlines and I have a stopover at Beijing Daxing Airport on the outbound flight of 21.30 hours and a return flight of 23 hours. My nationality is not among the countries with free 240-hour visas. Can I apply for a free 24-hour temporary entry visa upon arrival at the airport? Does this work for all nationalities? Does it depend on the opinion of the border officer or will they definitely not allow me to leave the transit area and I have to stay in the transit area for 21 hours? Thank you.

Hamed, in order to be allowed to exit the airport you will have to apply for a temporary entry permit upon your landing in Beijing. So, upon your landing you will fill out arrival card and tick the box - transit on the card. After that you will perform fingerprinting at automated fingerprinting machines. When you are done with that you will approach 24/240 hour visa free transit where you will apply for a temporary entry permit by presenting your flight tickets, the above mentioned details and a hotel booking confirmation if you plan to stay in the hotel overnight (this detail helps a lot). Now, an important detail - Temporary entry permit is not a right, but is issued as a bonus or in other words, it is always considered and decided based on case by case basis. You can be granted or denied a temporary entry permit based on a discretionary decision of the relevant official at that very moment. In any case, you are advised to try to obtain a permit and even if denied there are no consequences. You will remain in the transit area of Beijing airport. Having in mind the length of your layover(s) I would say that your chances to be granted a temporary entry permit are really very good. I hope you will be successful.

Thank you for your answer. Has anyone really been able to get a 24-hour transit exit permit upon arrival at Daxing Airport or is it just speculation? I have already received a hotel reservation form through China Southern and the hotel is free for me. However, due to my nationality and passport, I am not on the list of nationalities that can easily get a 240-hour visa.So do you think it's better for me to try my luck?

Hamed, the essence of your journey is that you can travel absolutely visa free and you do not need a visa for both of your travel legs. However, nobody can guarantee that you will be granted a temporary entry permit to exit the airport. If I may, I would say that your chances, especially with a hotel provided by the airline, are very, very good. However, not at all guaranteed. It would be very irresponsible to tell you something like, do not worry, it is job done. It is not, but the chances are good. Also, you have to be aware that you are traveling on 24 hour visa free transit and not 240 hour visa free transit because just a limited number of countries are eligible for that, longer visa free transit option. In any case, you do not need a visa, but you should definitely apply for a temporary entry permit upon your landing and again, your chances to be granted one are very good.
