About:10-year China Visa for US and Canadian Citizens

Arriving by ferry not airplane

Hi there,
I am arriving at Nansha from Hong Kong by ferry and I am staying with friends in Guangzhou. I have permanent residency in Hong Kong and I live there. I am traveling on a Canadian passport. Can I apply for a 10 year visa if arriving by ferry and not staying at a hotel?

Do you mean applying for a 10-year visa on arrivial at Nansha by ferry? I'm afraid no. There is no Visa on Arrivial in Guangfzhou. You need to get a visa in advance to travel from HK to Guangzhou and then back.

Hi Trace,
Thanks for the quick reply. Apologies, I didn't make myself clear. I will be applying in advance in Hong Kong for the 10 year visa but I will not arrive in China by air (I'm taking a ferry) or stay in a hotel (I'm staying with friends in Nansha). Do you think this will this make the process of getting a 10 year visa not possible? I am not expecting a visa on arrival as I know this is not possible.

If you have to a 10-year visa, it is possible to enter by ferry and stay with your friends. However, you have to register in the local police station within 24 hours if you plan to stay with your friends.
