About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can I get a 72 hour transit visa with this connection?

US citizen flying from Tokyo to Beijing and then to Seoul. However, my best flight from Tokyo connects in Seoul. Do they consider connections in their considerations? And is it possible to apply for a 72 hour transit visa in advance?

Actually, the option with connection in Seoul is not acceptable and is considered as non transit. Please, keep in mind that only the immediate points before and after your Chinese destination matter. So, you can use:

Tokyo - Beijing - Seoul

But, itinerary:

Tokyo - Seoul - Beijing - Seoul

Is not acceptable.

Also, it is not 72, but 144 hours visa free transit in Beijing area and you do not apply in advance. You will just declare the fact of your 144 hour visa free transit at the time of your check-in in Tokyo. The same thing you will repeat upon arrival in Beijing.
