About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Guangdong

Guangzhou to HK

Hi
I am flying from Moscow to Guangzhou going directly to Hong Kong after landing, I am a Hong Kong permanent resident and would like to know if I can transit from Guangzhou Airport to the Guangzhou- Kowloon trainline or Ferry to Hong Kong using my Hong Kong permanent ID card ?? . if not then approximately how long would it take to obtain transit visa on arrival if required, and how long would it take to get from the airport to either train station or china ferry port , so I can calculate a time to book a train or ferry ticket to HK. lastly are the train/ferry tickets transferable if we miss a pre-book due to delays at airport

Many Thanks

Olga

Your itinerary is eligible for the 144-hour visa-free transit as long as you go to Hong Kong by ferry. At present train is not eligible for the scheme. Under the visa-free transit scheme, you only need to apply for a temporary stay permit at the airport, which generally takes about several minutes to dozens of minutes due to different queues. You'd better confirm with the ferry company about if the ticket refundable or transferable.

Bus is not available because it is hard for you to hold it before departure. If you don't want to take a ferry, then flight is also possible.

Pazhou Port is much closer to the airport. You can take Metro Line 3 (North Extension Line) to Tiyu West Road and interchange to Metro Line 3 to Kecun Station. After that, transfer to Metro Line 8 to Pazhou Station. It takes about 1.5 hours.

Thank you for clarifying.. one other option i would like to ask is.... can we travel by coach or taxi from Guangzhou airport to China/Macau immigration entry port ?? from there we can take Ferry from Macau to Hong Kong, I know from experience that Ferry tickets are transferable and more ferries regularly depart between Macau and HK

Olga, the premise for you, a Russia passport holder to use the 144-hour visa free tansit is that you need to have the ticket (the ferry ticket has been proved well eligible by many) leaving mainland in hand when applying for it at the airport. If you leave from China-Macau immigration, I don't think you can provide the ticket because you are very likely to walk pass the border.

BTW, since you hold a HK permanent residence card, things should be easier than using the Russia passport. But I'm not very clear about how it is going on. You may call the hotline of China immigration for help: 010-12367

Thank you for all your help, its been a pleasure learning abt the 144hr transit visa, we have decided to stopover in GZ city for 2 nights and booked tickets online with CKS ferries for Shekou to HK, have received confirmation by email with QR codes that allows us to collect tickets at the ferry port. am i correct that we bring a printed copy of this ferry booking transaction to present at GZ airport when applying for 144 hr transit visa and show our HK permanent residency cards as proof of onward travel ? look forward to your response MANY THANKS
