About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Guangdong

Can I exit through Guangzhou South Railway Station?

Some websites don't say that Guangzhou South is an eligible departure port, however, it's one of the larger train stations. Foshan is listed as an eligible exit port but it's a smaller train station. Can someone confirm if I fly into Guangzhou, whether I can leave by GuangzhouSouth Rail?

Yes, those railway stations are formally eligible, but in reality, they cannot be used. Simply speaking, if you do not want to exit Guangzhou to Hong Kong by air, your by far the best choice is to take a ferry from either Nansha port (south from Guangzhou and reachable by metro) or from Shekou port in Shenzhen directly to Hong Kong. These routes are operated by CKS - Chu Kong Passenger Transport Company. You should have in mind that you will have to book your ferry ticket in advance, print it out and have that printout with you. Also, you will have to take exactly that ferry you have bought your tickets for.

The answer is far simpler. Those stations were served by so called through train that was connecting Guangzhou and Hong Kong for decades. However, since this was a conventional train that has lost a competition with high speed ones, it was simply discontinued. So, the stations are formally eligible, but there is no through conventional train any more. Today there are only high speed trains on Guangzhou to Hong Kong route and they are not eligible for 144 hour visa free transit.
