About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Visa Query

I am a British passport holder.

I am due to fly from London to Osaka via Shanghai (4.5 layover) with a three day stopover in Shanghai on the way back from Japan to the UK. Apparently I will need a transit visa (24 hours) on the way out due to needing to college and re check in my bag. What does have an impact on me wanting 144 hour Visa free entry transit in Shanghai for my return leg?

The 24-hour transit won't influence your application for 144-hour visa free transit. Take is easy and have fun in Shanghai~

If you need to enter China to collect your bags then you will need to apply for a Temporary Entry Permit when you land in Shanghai. This is granted at the discretion of the immigration officer, and you may need to explain that you have to collect your luggage. Are you on two separate tickets? 4.5 hours should be enough time, but if anything goes wrong then you could miss the check-in deadline for the flight to Japan. It would be much simpler if you could check your bag through from London to Osaka.
