About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Only transfering between flights in less than 24 hours

I am a German citizen. I am planning a flight from Frankfurt via Guangzhou to Melbourne, both with China Southern. Everything will be booked on one ticket. I will have about 2 hours in Guangzhou and will only transfer. Do I need to go to an immigration counter and fill out any documents or can I just walk from the arrival gate to the departure gate?

There are no formalities you will have to accomplish. You will just remain within airside and, as you have written, walk between arrival and departure gate. No, applications, no documents... Yes, you will probably have to cross identity check to be allowed to proceed to departure gates, but this takes very short time. In one phrase, you will travel through China using 24 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa.
