About:How to Apply a China Visa in Hong Kong

Need a Chinese visa, currently as a tourist in Japan with a Dutch Passport?

I'm currently temporarily working in Japan (for 2 months). I've discovered as I don't live in Japan, I can't apply for Chinese tourist visa in Japan, I must do this in the country I live, which is Holland. I've found it might be possible to travel to Hong Kong and apply for a Chinese tourist visa there. Can anyone confirm this?

It's not guaranteed you will get one in HKfor sure. Since both are not your home country, I recommend you to try at both places to increase the successful rate. In Japan, you can also submit your temporary work visa to support the application.
