About:Visa on Arrival

United States passport holder: Travel to Shenzen

Hi, I'd like to fly into Hong Kong, then either drive/boat/train into Shenzhen, to visit my friends who live there.

Questions:
- Would I qualify for a 5 day visa-on-arrival?
- At the end of the 5th day, can I just leave Shenzhen, go back to Hong Kong (stay in a hotel for 1 night in HK), then the next day, go back to Shenzhen for a new 5 day visa-on-arrival?

1. Yes, you are qualified for the 5-day VOA and generally you are suggested to get there by ferry at Shekou Port. The opening hours are 9:00 - 13:00 & 14:30 - 16:30.

2. Theoretically, it is possible, but everyone doesn't know what will happen in practical. You can just have a try, good luck!

Thank you, Bill for the fast response.

I wanted to fly to Hong Kong next week (week of June 5-10), and there is not enough time to go to San Francisco to get a full China visa there. (So, this is why I was interested in this 5-day visa-on-arrival)

If I finish going to Shenzhen (on a 5 day visa-on-arrival), then go back to Hong Kong...
- sleep in Hong Kong for 1-2 nights
- go to Heibei province. Could i use the 144 hour visa exemption? Or is there another 5 day visa-on-arrival program?

There is no 5-day VOA in Hebei. However, it is covered by 144-hour visa-free transit. If you want to be eligible for this, you have to satisfy the following requirements.

First, you can only stay in Hebei, Tianjin, and Beijing (the three places belong to one transit area) for less than 144 hours and you cannot move to other mainland Chinese cities.

Second, the next stop of your journey should be a third country or region. That means you cannot go back to HK. Your itinerary should be:
HK - Hebei - US/ Macau/ any other city beyond mainland China. HK - Hebei - HK is not eligible.
