About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Guangdong

Taiwan-Guangzhou-Taiwan

Hello,
I would like to know if the 144 hour visa free transit is eligible for me in Guangdong by use US passport?

The plan route will be: USA - Taiwan - Guangzhou - Taiwan - USA

US passport is fine, but the problem is with your itinerary that is not eligible. As you can see, the segment:

Taiwan - Guangzhou - Taiwan

Is just a return trip and not a transit, so not eligible for any visa free transit option.

The rule is simple and it says, the immediate points before and after a Chinese destination, in your case Guangzhou, have to be in two different countries or eligible territories (eligible territories are: Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau). So, you could make your itinerary eligible by introducing a third country / territory. For example, you can do the following:

US - Taiwan - Hong Kong (by air) - Guangzhou - Taiwan - US

Like this, the immediate points before and after Guangzhou will be in two different territories and you immediately become eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in entire Guangdong province.
