VOA at Shenzhen, Canadian passport holder

My mother holds a Canadian passport and does not have a recent Chinese travel visa (the last one was from 1999). She wants to visit her relatives in Shenzhen and need to get a 5-day VOA at Shenzhen Luohu Port. Seeing some of the comments above, we are very worried she may be rejected to get a VOA at Luohu. Is there anything she can prepare (paper work) in advance to help her get her VOA? Thank you.

Your mother is definitely eligible for 5 days Shenzhen VOA. It really does not matter if she had or not a Chinese visa in the past. However, I do not recomed taking Luohu (Lo Wu) border crossing these days because the pressure of those applying for a Shenzhen VOA is huge. If only she can take a ferry from Hong Kong to Shekou port in Shenzhen, that would be by far the best. This is the most elegant option. Anyway, please, just take care about the opening hours of Shekou port visa office: 9:00 - 13:00 & 14:30 - 16:30.

So, plan to take a ferry that conincides with the opening hours of Shekou visa office. She will be perfectly fine.
