Joey, you have two options:
- Fly to Hong Kong and take a train from there to Luohu (Lo Wu) border crossing. At the border crossing you can obtain a 5 days Shenzhen visa on arrival for affordable 168 CNY. This would be probably the most straightforward and you can exit from Shenzhen back to Hong Kong by any mean of transport and by using any border crossing, including a high speed train. The main problem of this visa is that it limits you to just the administrative boundaries of Shenzhen city.
- Also, you can fly directly from abroad to one of two eligible airports in Guangdong province (Shenzhen and Guangzhou) and exit in direction of Hong Kong, Macau or maybe some other, third country. In other words, you can create the following itinerary (just as an example):
Vancouver - Shenzhen - Hong Kong (by ferry)
Vancouver - Guangzhou - Seoul
There are several options, but you should always have in mind that three countries (eligible geographical entities) have to be involved.
By using 144 hour visa free transit, you do not need any visa and you are allowed to stay, explore and enjoy entire Guangdong province where Guangzhou and Shenzhen are located, among many other cities.
