USA to China Visa Questions

Hello, I want to travel to China from USA as a tourist and stay no longer than 30 days. I have US passport.
Where do I go to get this Visa thing?
Do I apply online and is it then mailed?
I really don't know how to obtain this Visa thing and where to get it.

First, figure out which China embassy or consulate in the US is in charge of your application. Then fill in the application form on the official web, print it out and sign it. At last, submit the application form and other requirements to that embassy or consulate; an online appointment may be needed before going.

Mail application is currently not available in most China consulates or embassies. But you may use mail back service.
