About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu

Is there a limit to how many 144 hour stays you can have in a period?

Can you go San Francisco Shanghai (144 hours) Hong Kong then Hong Kong Beijing Macau (or something similar) so that you can get additional time in China without a Visa?

Yes, this is allowed or in other words, there is no limit of how many 144 hour visa free transits you can enjoy within some particular time frame. By the way, both itineraries that you have mentioned are perfectly eligible for 144 hours visa free transit. Of course, you have to take care that the flights you are talking about do not have any additional landing before and after Shanghai and/or Beijing within mainland China. Something like Sanf Francisco - Xiamen - Shanghai - Hong Kong would not be eligible...

Anyway, I know you understand the logic of this option, so just proceed with your travel plans.
