Actually, you will have to be a bit more creative. Yes, you will fly from Hong Kong to Guangzhou, but you cannot exit to Hong Kong because that would not be a transit, but a return trip, so you will exit to Macau. Here are the steps of how to do it:
- Buy a plane ticket from Hong Kong to Guangzhou (to be eligible for a transit in Guangdong province, you simply have to fly into it)
- Buy a ferry (catamaran) ticket from Shekou port in Shenzhen to Macau at TurboJet website. Please, have in mind that after booking of this ticket, you should print it and have it with you because you will have to present it in Hong Kong and in Guangzhou.
- Like this you have satisfied the requirements because you have:
A - B - C
Hong Kong - Guangzhou (mainland China) - Macau
This is a real transit and it will allow you to stay in the entire Guangdong province for 144 hours visa free. So, there is no any kind of visa, but totally visa free.
- Please, have in mind that you will have to take exactly that ferry (catamaran) from Shekou port in Shenzhen that you bought your ticket for.
- After you reach Macau, you can proceed to Hong Kong by bus, ferry or whatever way you want to catch your next destination after Hong Kong.
As you can see, this is doable, but to travel visa free, you will have to insert Macau that plays a role of a third country for visa free transit purposes.
