About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Guangdong

Paris - Shanghai - Guangzhou

Do I get the 144 hours visa if I fly from Paris to Guangzhou, with a 1 hour stop in Shanghai? Just stopover on the airport and fly directly to Guangzhou. Or is it only possible to get the visa when fly directly to Guangzhou?

Good question.

Unfortunately, the policy of 144 hours visa free transit allows only one stop in a designated 144 area. In other words, you cannot have two stops within mainland China. The only way how to enjoy 144 hours visa free transit is, as you have correctly assumed, to fly directly to Gunagzhou or Shenzhen.

Also, you should take care about how will you exit from Guangdong province to be eligible for this facility! In other words, you are allowed to exit or toward Macau / Hong Kong via several designated crossings or by flight to a C country that is different from both mainland China and France.

Okay, and if fly to HongKong, have stopover, and fly to Guangzhou it will be okay right? But then cannot leave to HongKong again. Will it be possible to leave via Macau?

You have to fly into Guangzhou to be eligible for 144 hours visa free transit. So, your idea to fly from Hong Kong to Guangzhou is fine, but you will have to exit to Macau. You cannot exit to Hong Kong because this would not be considered to be a transit.

The best way how to exit to Macau is by taking a ferry (catamaran) provided by TurboJet from Shekou port in Shenzhen directly to Macau. This is important because like this, you will arrive in Guangzhou with your exit ticket in your hand and this will be perfectly fine to enjoy this visa free transit that is valid for entire Guangdong province.
